Weighted Average Tuition

Wow!!! It’s that time again. Time to get ready for a new school year for kindergartners all the way up to and including college students. Seems like just yesterday we were preparing for college by saving our “pennies” to send our children to school for a higher education. Now it’s time to spend those “pennies” and get them ready for their first (or maybe the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th) year of college. With that being said, this year’s 2008-'09 Weighted Average Tuition (WAT) is in--$9,452 for a year (30 credit hours) at a university. WAT is based on the average cost of tuition at the nine Illinois public universities, which is consistently rising.

What does this figure mean to College Illinois!? Well, this is the amount that College Illinois! will pay for the beneficiary if they attend a private or out-of-state college. This is about a 10% increase from last year’s WAT ($8,553 for university), which is right in line with the average increase in college tuition for universities.

With this cost constantly increasing every year, your best defense is to be prepared with a 529 Prepaid Tuition Plan like College Illinois!.
