Choice 1 - Community College
The emphasis here is community college. And an affordable price. The payments are based on the average tuition charged at State of Illinois community colleges. You can buy one to four semesters, with each semester equal to 15 credit hours and one mandatory fee term. And, yes, should your child choose another educational path, the tuition credits can still be used. You lose nothing. You will receive the value of the plan you purchased.
Choice 2 - University
Plenty of choices. From the University of Illinois at Chicago to Illinois State University to the University of Illinois at Springfield – plenty of coverage. In fact, the goal is any State of Illinois public university except the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Contract price is based on the weighted average tuition (WAT) and mandatory fees at all Illinois public universities except UIUC. You can buy one to nine semesters, with each semester equal to 15 credit hours and one mandatory fee term. Again, if your child should eventually choose another type of college or university, the tuition credits still apply though, most likely, at a reduced level.
Choice 3 - University+
The path here is the UIUC, although your benefits also apply to all State of Illinois public universities. This is the full benefit plan – with a contract price based on UIUC’s tuition and mandatory fees. You can buy from one to nine semesters, with each semester equal to 15 credit hours and one mandatory fee term. As with other SmartChoice tiers, your child is not locked in to UIUC.
He or she can go to any school anywhere – without losing tuition credits.
And if your student chooses another educational route, several options exist
to ensure that you still receive the full value of your plan.
